In a harrowing development that marks one of the most severe escalations in the ongoing war, Russia launched an extensive and coordinated aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying over 400 drones and more than 40 missiles across multiple regions. This wave of attacks, described as one of the largest since the war began, left at least four people dead and more than 40 others injured.

The night sky over Ukraine transformed into a battlefield, with cities from Kiev to Lviv shaken by powerful explosions. The attacks caused widespread destruction, ignited fires, and triggered mass panic among civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urgently appealed to the West for immediate support, calling for stronger sanctions against Russia and further assistance to end what he termed as “murders and strikes” on Ukrainian soil.

Zelensky Said:

Today, rescue and emergency operations continued all day across various regions and cities of our country. Over 400 drones, more than 40 missiles were launched by the Russians. 80 people were injured, and some may still be under the debris. And unfortunately, not everyone in the world condemns such attacks. This is exactly what Putin exploits.

He is buying himself time to keep waging war. The Russians constantly try to drive wedges into the unity of the world in order to prevent stronger pressure for their war. We must clearly see the task at hand. Diplomacy must work, security guarantees must be ensured, and peace must be established. For that, initial steps are needed, particularly a ceasefire. Pressure must be applied on Russia to make that happen and to stop the attacks.

One of the most chilling moments was captured in Lutsk, a city in western Ukraine, where missiles were seen slamming into civilian areas. Russia deployed 407 drones and 44 missiles, including both ballistic and cruise types, in a coordinated attack that touched nearly every region of Ukraine. Surveillance footage from Kiev showed the terrifying moment when missiles struck residential zones, igniting fires and devastating homes.

Eyewitnesses recounted the chaos: “There was an air raid alarm. We went out to the parking lot. Then everything quieted down. We went back upstairs because we have a small child, and then we heard a drone coming very close, followed by a loud explosion. People ran outside to see what had happened. Firefighters and ambulances rushed to the scene. Then the missiles began falling.”

The assault was not limited to the capital. Major Ukrainian cities suffered extensive infrastructure damage, and civilian areas bore the brunt of the strikes. In response, President Zelensky implored Western nations to enforce new, effective sanctions on Russia and its leadership. He stressed that swift and decisive actions were needed to bring real accountability and achieve peace.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense defended the strikes, claiming they were a retaliatory response to alleged “terrorist acts” by Ukraine. It insisted that military installations were the primary targets. However, the scale and precision of the strikes on civilian areas tell a different story.

Ukraine, however, is not retreating. In a bold counteroffensive, Ukrainian forces targeted energy and fuel infrastructure deep within Russian territory. This includes strikes on Russian airfields in the Saratov and Ryazan regions—marking the first attacks on such targets since March. Ukrainian drones reportedly hit fuel depots and energy facilities, signaling a new phase in the conflict that is now stretching deeper into Russia.

The latest assault underscores the relentless and escalating nature of this war, which continues to cause immense human suffering and geopolitical instability.
