During his official visit to Cyprus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a deeply symbolic and heartfelt speech after being conferred with a prestigious international honour. His address was not just a moment of personal recognition, but a tribute to the 140 crore citizens of India and their collective strength, aspirations, and cultural ethos.

Modi began his speech by expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Cyprus and to the international community. He humbly stated that the award he received was not just an honor for him personally, but a recognition of the people of India—their capability, their ambition, and their tireless pursuit of excellence. It was also, as he described, a tribute to India’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the ancient Indian belief that the entire world is one family.

He dedicated the award to the friendship between India and Cyprus, highlighting the deep-rooted shared values and mutual understanding between the two nations. Modi stressed that the honour symbolises the cultural brotherhood between the countries and the shared commitment to peace and cooperation.

Pm Modi says on X(Twitter)

I express my sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Cyprus for awarding me the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’. This is not my honor. It is an honor for 140 million Indians. The Prime Minister went on to describe the award as a symbol of India’s unwavering dedication to global peace, security, sovereignty, and the prosperity of people—not just within India, but across the world. He added that the award should be seen as a responsibility, not merely a recognition, towards strengthening India’s bilateral relations with Cyprus and contributing to global harmony.

Modi also emphasized that the active partnership between India and Cyprus would reach new heights in the future. He voiced his confidence that the two countries would continue to collaborate—not just for their national development but also for building a peaceful and secure world order.

He concluded his speech with a warm and respectful expression of gratitude for the honour, reinforcing India’s role as a global contributor to peace, cultural understanding, and inclusive growth.
