Putin Warns President Trump for Interfering in Iran-Israel War
As the Israel-Iran conflict intensifies dangerously, global powers are being drawn into an increasingly volatile situation. In a sharp diplomatic move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a clear warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, urging the United States not to interfere directly in Israel’s war against Iran. The Kremlin emphasized that any direct U.S. involvement would have serious and unpredictable global consequences.
Earlier in the day, President Putin held a telephonic conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where both leaders jointly condemned Israel’s ongoing military operations against Iran. The Russian-Chinese stance reflects growing concerns that the Middle East crisis could spiral into a much larger international conflict if not contained swiftly.
Russia’s concern sharply focuses on the Israeli air strikes targeting Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant — a vital facility where more than 200 Russian scientists and technicians are currently working. The Kremlin has urgently called on Israel to immediately halt these airstrikes to protect its personnel and investments. Built by Russia’s Rosatom, the Bushehr plant is Iran’s first commercial nuclear reactor, with one reactor currently operational and two additional reactors planned.
In a televised press conference from St. Petersburg, President Putin offered to mediate in the Israel-Iran conflict, proposing that Moscow could help negotiate a settlement that balances Iran’s pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy with Israel’s security concerns. Putin stated, “Overall, it is possible to ensure Iran’s interests in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. At the same time, it is possible to address Israel’s concerns regarding its security. In my opinion, such options exist.”
Putin also clarified the nature of Russia’s growing cooperation with Iran. Although Russia and Iran signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement earlier this year, Putin stressed that it does not include military or defense cooperation. He revealed that Russia once offered Iran collaboration on air defense systems, but Tehran showed little interest at that time. “As for the agreement you mentioned about strategic partnership, there are no articles related to the defense sphere,” Putin added.
The tensions flared even more after President Trump made a provocative statement on his Truth Social platform. Trump declared that the U.S. knows the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and could assassinate him at any moment but chooses not to. This inflammatory statement sparked sharp reactions across the region. In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei issued a stern warning to the United States, stating that “Iran does not fear anyone and will defend itself against any aggression.” The exchange has significantly heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, raising global fears of a broader war.
When asked how Russia would respond if Israel or the United States were to carry out such an assassination, Putin refused to speculate, but emphasized that confidential discussions are ongoing. “I have had discussions with the US, Iran, and Israel. All these details have been discussed with both the Israeli and American sides and we have sent certain signals to our Iranian friends,” he noted.
Russia’s significant civilian presence at the Bushehr plant raises serious questions about whether Moscow might eventually be drawn deeper into the conflict. Putin stated that approximately 250 Russian experts are stationed permanently at the site, with the number rising to 600 including temporary business visits. “We are not leaving. Is that not support?” Putin said, underlining Russia’s ongoing commitment to its civilian projects in Iran.
As the Israel-Iran war escalates, and with the United States under Trump taking an increasingly provocative stance, the world watches with growing anxiety. Russia’s strategic role, combined with its large civilian footprint in Iran, could potentially drag Moscow deeper into the conflict if the security of its nationals is threatened.
