The UK has strongly condemned Russia’s escalating attacks on Ukraine at a UN Security Council meeting, calling each strike a deliberate attempt to destroy life and liberty. UK Ambassador Barbara Woodward highlighted the recent surge in drone and missile attacks that have killed 64 civilians and injured over 279, including children. She emphasized that Russia’s actions show no intent for peace, despite international law and UN obligations. The UK echoed President Trump’s call for Russia to return to the negotiating table and demanded an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire.
UK Condemns Russia’s Relentless Strikes on Ukraine
In a powerful address at the United Nations Security Council, United Kingdom Ambassador Barbara Woodward condemned Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine, characterizing every Russian strike as a direct assault on life, liberty, and peace. The meeting came just a day after the Council’s previous discussion on the crisis, underscoring the rapid escalation of violence and its devastating toll.
Ambassador Woodward began by acknowledging the somber mood in Ukraine. “As we meet here, only a day after our last discussion on Russia’s continued aggression in Ukraine, I do so acutely aware that this is a day of mourning in Kyiv,” she said, extending her condolences to grieving families.
Russia’s continued military strikes have intensified dramatically in recent days. Over the last four nights alone, Russian forces launched 487 drones and 10 missiles across Ukrainian cities, killing at least 64 civilians and injuring more than 279 others. The most deadly of these occurred on Wednesday night in Kyiv, resulting in 31 deaths — the deadliest attack on the Ukrainian capital so far this year.
The strikes have also inflicted severe harm on children. According to local authorities, 12 children were injured in the recent assault, making it the highest number of children injured in a single attack on Kyiv since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. Among the victims was a six-year-old boy who lost his life, while at least nine other children were hospitalized.
“These are not just numbers,” said Woodward. “Each represents an individual life lost, a future snuffed out, and for the wounded, a future irrevocably blighted by Russia.” Recounting her own visit to rehabilitation centers in Kyiv, the Ambassador painted a grim picture of the suffering faced by survivors.
The United Kingdom’s statement emphasized that these attacks show no signs of Russia aiming for peace. Instead, they reflect President Putin’s continued intent to destroy Ukrainian society and sovereignty. “Every Russian strike is a commitment not to peace, but an attempt to destroy life and liberty in Ukraine,” said the Ambassador.

Despite international obligations under the UN Charter and Russia’s role as a permanent member of the Security Council, the Russian government continues to flout its responsibilities, escalating attacks even as global condemnation mounts.
The UK reiterated its support for a peaceful resolution and urged meaningful engagement in negotiations. Echoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent appeal, the United Kingdom called on President Putin to come to the negotiating table.
“This Council was all but unanimous yesterday in calling for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire. That remains our call today,” Woodward concluded, reinforcing the global consensus for an end to hostilities.
The United kingdom’s statement adds to the growing chorus of nations demanding that Russia halt its aggression and prioritize diplomacy over destruction. With civilian casualties rising and infrastructure crumbling, the international community continues to push for a ceasefire — and for accountability.
